We are continuing our monthly Foreign Fridays series on Nov 6th! This monthly series will be hosted by Board Member, filmmaker, and travel lover, Jason Caridi. In addition to foreign films, the theme of this series will include those that explore foriegnness. The ways people interact with their novel surroundings is poetically tied in with how they interact with one another.
Our next film will be -- you asked for it -- Paddington 2! No other film could brighten your spirits as much as this one. Paddington, now settled with the Browns in London, is framed for stealing a rare pop-up book and sent to prison, where his politeness transforms the place. It’s a funny, deeply kind film about what it means to make a home.
Paddington 2 is Paul King’s 2017 sequel that critics embraced so warmly it once held the record as the best-reviewed film in Rotten Tomatoes history. It follows everyone’s favorite marmalade-loving bear on a quest to find the perfect birthday gift for his Aunt Lucy, a mission that lands him in far more trouble than he bargained for, thanks in no small part to a gloriously theatrical Hugh Grant, who was nominated for the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor. Remember Paddington’s own advice: if we’re kind and polite, the world will be right.
We hope to see you there!
