Black History Month Event: The One and Only Dick Gregory

Join us for a Post Screening Q&A with Dr. Christian Gregory, eighth child of Dick and Lillian Gregory and the film editor and ACME Board Member Patrick Murphy.

The Essential Dick Gregory book (only 50 copies) will be available when you purchase with your ticket online. Annual Pass holders pay only $5 for the book.

The One and Only Dick Gregory gives its singular subject his due with a comprehensive retrospective and thoughtful commentary, highlighting how the comedy icon's contributions extended far beyond the stage. Filmmaker Andre Gaines examines the remarkable life and career of stand-up comic, activist and pop culture icon Dick Gregory with a thoughtful film about a politically committed artist that doesn't short the politics or the art, but instead examines how one fueled the other.

Dr. Gregory, who appears in the film, maintained a chiropractic practice in Washington for 25 years, caring for DC natives, leading entertainment figures, and friends in the movement including Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, Dorothy Height, Cicely Tyson, and Stevie Wonder. When Dick Gregory decided to resume an active speaking and entertainment schedule, he became his father's manager. Since his passing in 2017, Christian has managed his father's estate and intellectual property, and has successfully guided the development of other projects on his father's life, including the stage play TURN ME LOOSE.
